Hello everyone!

After conferring with the staff and crew, a decision has been made to cancel TrickConTreat 2009.

The cancellation, in large part, is due to the flagging economy. Many of our vendors and sponsors have been forced to limit their travel and participation, which in turn reduces our ability to put on the convention which Halloween fans deserve. Rather than put on an event which doesn't meet a high standard of quality, TrickConTreat staff will focus their efforts on future events.

Our vendors and attendees who have preregistered will be refunded their money as quickly as possible. I hope you will all support the future efforts of TrickConTreat. If you have questions regarding future events, please contact Ande Spenser at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

For my part, 2009 marks the end of my participation with TrickConTreat. I've spent the last 16 years planning TrickConTreat or the parties which preceded the convention. The time has come for me to step back and let others carry the torch.

I offer my deepest appreciation to the volunteers who I've had the opportunity to work with through all these years. Without your efforts, none of it would have been possible.

This will be the first Halloween season of my life as a “grown-up” during which I'm not organizing or running a large event. I hope you will all join me in supporting those who have taken the plunge, from everyone at Ghouls Gone Wild to our friends at Rampage Artists with the Oct. 31st Psychopomp.

Thank you all for your support of TrickConTreat.

Happy Haunting!

About Us

TrickConTreat is a fan convention which celebrates Halloween and the culture surrounding the holiday. If it relates to Halloween in any way, you'll find it at TrickConTreat.

Every year, we include traditional "con" fare, such as workshops and discussion panels covering everything from costuming to writing horror stories. If you have a favorite Halloween topic or activity, odds are we'll have one or two panels on the subject. If we don't, be sure to let us know, so we can include it next year.

The 2009 convention will include activities for all ages, from the KidSuite activity room to the 18+ Monsters' Masquerade. There will be performances throughout the weekend by local and regional musicians, dance troupes, theatrical groups, and many others. As always, we will have a Dark Art show and auction, and this year we're expanding our focus to include gaming and LARP activities.

One of the seldom mentioned perks of attending a fan-run convention, as opposed to an autograph show or media show, is the opportunity for meeting and networking with other fans without standing in line for hours at a time, just to pay extra for an autograph. Sharing tips and ideas with other pumpkinheads helps keep Halloween "new" for all of us.

Starting in 2009, TrickConTreat will be organized by The Halloween Preservation Society. This doesn't mean we're turning our backs on our sister convention, SoonerCon. We're all "fen" and hope to see SoonerCon continue to be the best SF / pop culture event in OK. The Halloween Preservation Society is on track to be one of the few Halloween-focused educational charities in the US. More information about THPS will be available soon.

Our History

TrickConTreat began formally with our 2007 convention. It was a one day event with great attendance, in spite of our faux pas of holding it on OU/Texas weekend. (For those of you who don't know, that's a religious holiday in Oklahoma, with greater significance than the World Series or the Super Bowl.)

The roots of the convention go much further back. In 1993, Ivarr and a few friends held the first Halloween Debacle. With each following year, the Debacle grew in size and scope, until it peaked with more than 350 attendees in 2001. In 2006, the Halloween Debacle Committee decided that the party had reached the end of its run and was already changing forms. The 13th Annual Halloween Debacle was planned as a fundraiser for the new convention and TrickConTreat was born.
